When it comes to SMS communication, one of the most common questions asked is “When is the best time to send my message?”. Even if your customers are accustomed to receiving messages from you, that doesn’t necessarily mean they want to be disturbed in the middle of the night or just as they are getting up.

With this in mind, one thing is guaranteed when it comes to SMS – timing is essential.
Research has shown that mobile phones are used most between noon and 6pm. So as a general rule the best time to send out SMS is during “normal” business hours – anywhere between 9 AM and 5 PM.

Here’s a guide to what we’ve found works:
• For payment reminders – Better responses are received from messages sent between the hours of 10am and 12pm Monday to Thursday.
• For advertising/sales messages – The best time to send is around midday on weekdays.
• For weekend events or promotions: The best days to send your messages are Tuesday or Wednesday with a second reminder on the day if necessary.

Try to avoid personal times of day such as dinner or very early morning to avoid negative reactions.

There is no “Golden Rule” when it comes to the timing of your SMS campaigns simply because every message is different, but ensuring that your mobile campaign is delivered in a well-timed manner will increase your chances of a positive response.
